The decision to impose a closure on holidays due to the alarming increase in corona cases has led to a series of actions taken by the municipality to reduce morbidity.
Along with informing and regularly updating residents regarding corona data in the city, municipal enforcement has been increased through the Department of Security and Emergency Services. Many inspections were conducted throughout the city during Rosh Hashanah and in isolated cases, gatherings in parks were dispersed by the municipal police and security vehicles. It was evident, however, that in most places residents followed the directives.
In addition, about 70 fines have so far been issued for not wearing a mask. During the closure, dozens of inspections were made to local businesses, to ensure that the purple tag guidelines are being met.
These guidelines stipulate, among other things, wearing a mask in a store, keeping a distance of 2 meters, and controlling the maximum number of customers who can be present in the store at one time.
On Monday, September 21, about 60 such inspections were conducted in businesses in the city's shopping centers and in the Einav Center.
The aim is to provide clear and vital information in order to create a balance between the regulations of health crisis and the economic situation of businesses that have been severely affected by it.
Every day, a situation assessment is conducted, led by the mayor and the professional bodies in the municipality, in which morbidity and preparedness data are presented, and if necessary, there is also cooperation with the police.
Now, we are preparing for Yom Kippur with increased inspections and enforcement in synagogues, to ensure that the guidelines are being adhered to. We are also preparing emergency responses for children and teenagers riding bicycles on the roads on Yom Kippur.
