Due to the expected wintry weather this weekend, the memorial service for the late Yona Bezalel Brief, z”l, which was scheduled to take place on Levi Street in front of House 15, will now be held at the Pisga Center Auditorium, 4 Yitzhak Rabin Blvd at 10am.
Inauguration of a city stairway in memory of Sgt. Yona Bezalel Brief z”l
On Friday, 14.11, at 10:00 am, a dedication and memorial ceremony will be held in memory of Sgt. Yona Bezalel Brief z”l with the participation of family members, friends, municipality representatives and residents.
Yona z”l was a resident of Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut, a graduate of Mesuat Neria school and Lapid Modi'in High School Yeshiva. A Bnei Akiva counsellor, a musician who played guitar and piano, an entrepreneur, a beloved friend, an athlete, and a man with an open heart.
Yona enlisted in the army and served as a soldier and combat medic in the Duvdevan unit of the Commando Division. On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Yona, along with his unit, was deployed to the Gaza Strip to assist in the fighting. The unit arrived in Kfar Gaza, and during the fighting, Yona jumped under fire to save his commander and his injured comrade. During the rescue, Yona was critically wounded, but continued to act calmly and treat the wounded.
For 417 days, Yona fought for his life with unimaginable heroism. Even from an intensive care bed, while connected to machines, he cared for others, encouraged, entertained friends, created a community around him, and became a symbol of hope.
The dedication ceremony of a city stairway in memory of Yona Bezalel Brief z”l is part of the municipal project to commemorate the city's fallen men and women, in which city locations are named after them. Next to each location is a memorial stone that includes a scan code to read about the life story and legacy of the fallen.
