A fascinating conference in honor of the late Prof. Yair Parag, in collaboration with the Annual Photographers' Conference
The 21st Annual Modi'in and Hasmonean Heritage Conference in Honor of the late Prof. Yair Parag will be held in the city (in the Einan Hall) during Chanukah, on Monday, 15.12.25.
The conference, which is being held for the 21st year, presents new and fascinating research and findings from the ancient Modi'in period to the present day. The conference is hosted by the Multidisciplinary Center, the Hasmonean Heritage Museum and the Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut Municipality, in cooperation with the Israel Antiquities Authority and Bar Ilan University.
There are panels on various topics with the participation of the best researchers and experts in the fields of history, archaeology and the environment. Admission is free, with advance registration.
The first session highlights research and innovations on the Hasmonean period: how the Hasmoneans reinvented the dating of the years, and innovations in the layout of the coins of Mattathias Antigonus, the last of the Hasmoneans. In addition, the findings of the community excavation and research on the wine industry at Givat HaTitorah will be presented in light of the new excavations.
The second session will focus on flora, fauna and inanimate objects in the city: a summary of thirty years of excavation and planning in Modi'in, conservation and developments in future planning, the animals found in Modi'in and its surroundings, and the abundance of flora in the ecological corridor.
During the day, tours will be held under the guidance of the Israel Antiquities Authority at three sites: the archaeological park at Givat Ashon, the ruins of Kfar Ruth, and the ruins of Pe'ush and the Gitit, and the winepresses that were uncovered in the community excavations at Givat HaTitorah. The cost of each tour is 10 shekels.
In addition, the Annual Photographers' conference is held in collaboration with National Geographic and produced by "Creative Land". A unique conference that offers a fascinating look at culture and heritage in the digital age through the lenses of two of Israel's most prominent photographers: Alex Parfuri, a leading and successful street photographer in Israel; and Harel Stanton, an ethnographic photographer and international lecturer.
Representatives of National Geographic Israel will also participate, presenting a look at culture and heritage as reflected in one of the world's most influential magazines. Ticket price: 40 shekels.
In the lobby of the Einan Hall, an exhibition of works on the theme of heritage, by students of the art program at the Ironi Alef High School will be presented, directed by Shira Hirsch-Shilo and Assaf Aboutbul.
