On Friday, December 26, a dedication ceremony was held in memory of First Sergeant Sahar Sudai, z”l, who was killed during an operational activity to locate Israeli hostages in Gaza.

He was 20 years old when he fell.

Last Friday, 26.12.25, a memorial ceremony was held to dedicate a city path in the name of First Sergeant Sahar Sudai. The ceremony was held on Emek HaEla Street in front of house number 39, with the participation of family members, friends, municipality representatives and city residents who came to pay their respects.

Sahar, born and raised in the city, served as a commander and platoon sergeant in the Givati Brigade. The October 7th, 2023 massacre placed the Givati Brigade on the front lines of fighting and from the first moment they acted with courage and heroism under fire.

Sahar served as a platoon sergeant in the Rotem Battalion. He commanded combat soldiers who came from yeshivot, with the sensitivity and calmness that characterized him so much, and acted out of a deep sense of mission and commitment to his soldiers and the mission. “Say little and do much," is a phrase that was a way of life for him.

On Sunday, May 26, 2024, the Rotem Battalion operated in a complex military mission in Jabalia, as part of a large-scale operation to locate bodies of the hostages.

Sahar, who was only a few weeks away from his release, insisted on going on the mission. During the operation, Sahar was injured by an anti-tank missile fired at the building where the force was staying and Sahar was killed immediately,

The dedication of the path is part of a municipal project to commemorate the fallen, both men and women, residents of the city, who fell in Israeli wars, by naming paths, ascents and public sites after them. The municipality is leading the commemoration process together with the bereaved families, while providing personal support and ensuring that the stories of the lives and heroism of the fallen are remembered.

A memorial stone is placed on each path or ascent, which includes a scannable barcode, which links to a dedicated website containing personal and moving information about the life story of the fallen. This way, passersby can stop for a moment, read, remember, and learn about the beloved soldier for whom each place is named.
