In a moving ceremony at Maccabim Reut High School, a tree was planted in memory of the late Sergeant Amit Regev z”l, a graduate of the 30th class and armored corps tank soldier who fell in the Iron Swords War, in the presence of his family, the city administration and the educational community.

In a moving ceremony that took place on Friday, January 16th, 2026 at Mor High School, a tree was planted in the Memorial Garden in memory of the school's graduate who fell in the Iron Swords War, Sergeant Amit Regev, z”l.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the Regev family, Deputy Mayor Shlomo Passi, Council Member and Education Portfolio Holder, Idan Hemi, School Principal Roni Follet, school staff, guests and graduates of the 30th class, the class of the late Amit. The Memorial Garden, established on Tu B’Shvat 2024 is a fruit tree garden established to commemorate the school's graduates who fell in Israel’s wars.

Amit, an armored corps fighter (tanks) in the 52nd Battalion of the 401st Brigade, fell in battle in defense of the homeland in the Gaza Strip in September 2025, during the Iron Swords War.

Amit was one of those people who did not need to speak loudly to have an impact.

He had humility, confidence, inner peace, and an open heart to his friends. Everyone who knew him knew that he had someone to rely on. Between his studies, friendships, and the values he absorbed at school, Amit chose to enlist in the tanks corps and fulfill his mission with humility.

During the ceremony, speeches were made by the school principal Roni Follet; the coordinator of alumni Dikla Tzadok; Amit's teacher, Alex Perlman; Amit's mother, Yael Regev, and his classmates. The ceremony was accompanied by poetry and the screening of a video in memory of Amit. The ceremony ended with the planting of a tree by the Regev family, parents and siblings. The tree symbolizes the roots that Amit left at the school, and the school's commitment to continue telling his story; a loyal friend, a good person and a brave fighter.

Yael Regev, Amit's mother: "This is the first time I'm talking about Amit and not to him, and it's not an easy task. Amit carefully chose the people he brought into his world, and those who were privileged to know him up close met a sensitive, wise young man with a clear moral compass, who chose his words carefully and truly listened. We thank the school and the community for continuing to remember, commemorate and embrace Amit, as he was and as he deserves to be remembered."

School principal Roni Follet: "We began the school year with pain with the fall of Sergeant Amit Regev, a graduate of the school, an fighter in the 401st Brigade who fell in the Gaza Strip with his tank crewmates. Amit, one of the city's finest sons, shaped his image among the school's benches and joined the ranks of alumni who have fallen over the years. Maccabim Reut High School is committed to commemorating its fallen graduates and educating future generations in the values of giving, volunteering, and standing up for a mission.

The planting of the avenue of fruit trees is intended to commemorate the fallen in a place of life and growth, and to ensure that the memory of the fallen, including Amit, will continue to accompany the school community and the entire city."

The Memorial Garden currently commemorates the memory of 13 graduates of the school who fell in Israel's wars, including eight soldiers who fell in the Iron Swords War. The garden serves as a living and active memorial site that connects current students with the legacy of the past. As noted at the ceremony, the planting symbolizes the connection between the past and the future, as part of a tradition of love of the country and also for future generations.
