On Friday, September 4, a moving ceremony was held to dedicate a public pahtway in memory of Capt. (res.) Tal Movshovitz, a native of the city, who fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip, in the Iron Swords war. The ceremony took place on the lawn next to Lev Reut Square, with the participation of the Movshovitz family, friends, hundreds of residents, and about 100 students of the high school yeshiva, where Tal had attended.
Tal Movshovitz, z”l, was born and raised in Reut. He was the son of Hava and Asael, brother to Lilach, Tamir, Guy, and Eli. He married Eliana and was father to Halali and Amitai. During his military service, he served in the Combat Engineering Corps and was a full-time lieutenant colonel. After being discharged, he joined the General Security Service. On October 7, Tal served in the Shin Bet, and during the war he also acted as part of his role in operational activities. Later, out of an understanding that there was a shortage of engineering officers and out of a deep sense of responsibility, he requested reserve service in the Combat Engineering Corps and joined the fighting forces.
On the 20th of Sivan 5775, June 16, 2025, Tal fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip, during operational activities. Tal was leading the forces, and when he recognized danger in the structure that the fighters were approaching, he signaled his soldiers to move away and entered first. Shortly thereafter, an explosive device was detonated. Tal fell on the spot, and in his act, he saved the lives of his soldiers.
During the ceremony, Tal was remembered as a man of faith, joy, giving, and responsibility. A man who knew how to brighten up any place he entered, to see those who were on the sidelines, to connect people and to lend a hand without making a noise. His family and friends described a man who connected Torah study with meaningful service, between home and family and a security mission, and between love of man and love of country.
The path in his memory, located on the road between Irusim Street and Lev Reut Square, was chosen by the family because it was an inseparable part of Tal’s life. This was the path he walked from the family home to the synagogue, to the Bnei Akiva branch, to school, to friends and to the center.
The dedication of the path took place as part of the municipal project to honor the city’s fallen soldiers. As part of the project, Modi'in Maccabim Reut municipality commemorates its sons and daughters who fell, throughout the cties walkways and stairways, in places where residents pass every day. The goal of the project is to preserve the memory of the fallen as an inseparable part of the life of the city, the community and the education of future generations.
The project is based on working together with the bereaved families, with the desire to choose a place of personal, family or community significance for each fallen man and woman. Thus, the commemoration does not remain just in the ceremony or on the memorial stone, but becomes part of the way in which the city remembers and tells about the heroes of the city.
On the memorial stone unveiled in the path, it is written that Tal was a “commander and fighter in the Shin Bet, a reserve lieutenant colonel in combat engineering,” and that he “radiated light and joy and connected hearts.”
Tal’s Path will continue to bear the name and story of the late Tal Movshovitz, and to remember his personal path: faith, giving, responsibility, love of people and love of country.
