This week, new blue containers at recycling stations have been installed throughout the city, as part of the first step in renewing the paper recycling system.
It comes as part of the change in the collection and disposal method that the public has been informed about in recent months.
As a reminder, following a change in the city's paper disposal model, paper disposal from the blue containers placed in the trash rooms in the communal buildings was temporarily stopped, in preparation for a transition to a new format of centralized collection at recycling stations in the public space.
The change was required, among other things, against the backdrop of a decrease of approximately 50% in the amount of paper intended for recycling in recent years, resulting from changes in paper consumption habits. Among other things, this involves a shift from printed newspaper consumption to digital media, a significant reduction in the delivery of letters, bills and other mail, and the increasing shift to the use of e-mail and online services.
Starting on Monday, September 14, 2026, the municipality placed dozens of new blue bins throughout the city, as part of the first phase of renewing the paper recycling system. The bins were placed at recycling stations in public spaces, as part of the transition from the old system to a new model.
Additional bins will subsequently be placed throughout the city in accordance with the deployment plan.
According to the plan, the bins will be emptied every two weeks in the first phase. The municipality will monitor the actual filling rate, and if there is a need to increase the frequency of emptying, it will be adjusted accordingly.
The move constitutes another step in returning the paper recycling system to operation, after the organization period required to change the collection method. The goal of the move is to allow residents to continue to recycle paper in an orderly manner, using designated and accessible recycling stations throughout the city.
