Givat Ashon - new archeological park

The road has been paved for the building of a unique archeological park, Givat Ashon, which is located in the heart of the Moreshet neighborhood, currently under construction.

This large and significant project, run by the Economic Company for the Development of Modiin Maccabim Reut, in co-operation with the Antiquities Authority, creates a new kind of antiquity park in the country, and is slated to be an attraction site for residents, tourists and visitors from abroad.

Antiquities Authority researchers Avraham Tendler and Eldad Greenfeld note that "the finds unearthed at the site are of high value, the most prominent of which are the remains of settlement from the Hellenistic period that connect us directly to the heritage of the Hasmoneans.”
According to the plan, walking through the park will be like a journey in a time elevator, where at any point it will be possible to stop, observe and get to know the lifestyles of those who lived in Modiin in different periods of the past – including the early and late Hellenistic period and the ancient Roman period. It is not only a heritage site, but also an intrinsic part of the vibrant community neighborhood.

Different periods of history will be represented by oil presses, winepresses, agricultural terraces, a farmhouse, a mikveh, cisterns, excavation finds and two interesting observation points, through a combination of experiential signage, an interactive content platform and game facilities.

Givat Ashon Archaeological Park will be the largest archeological park in the city and construction is expected to take about a year.

Haim Bibas, Mayor: "Work has begun on the construction of the archeological park, which in our view is going to be one of the most impressive and attractive parks in the country, which tells the unique story of the city and the locality with pride, strengthening the historic connections to this place.”

Shimon Guetta: Archeology and Heritage portfolio: "Givat Ashon is an important and fascinating heritage site about the lives of the Hasmoneans. We will soon be able to visit and to learn about the spectacular discoveries that will uncover the fascinating history of the ancient settlement of Modi'in.”
