Mayor Haim Bibas: “Great news that we have all been waiting for - the city's 'Southern Hills' area has been designated a national park! After years of struggle, the National Planning and Building Council has adopted my urban vision.”
“After years of struggle, the National Planning and Building Council has made an unprecedented decision designating the Southern Hills area of the city (Gva’ot HaDromiot) as a National Park, ensuring that this area will stay green for future generations.
Many of the city's residents and representatives of the green environmental organizations were partners in this struggle, who, like me, saw the need to maintain a balance between urban development and preserving nature in the city.”
On 23rd February 2021, a discussion was held in the subcommittee of the National Planning and Building Council, which was one of the main and final milestones on the way to approving the city's overall plan in accordance with the mayor's vision and setting the city's development goals for 2040.
This historic decision made by the committee, adopted the vision of Mayor Haim Bibas, in full, for the city's development goals for 2040, which include, among other things, that the number of residents not exceed 240,000, when future housing units are built in the northwest area of the city, the area between the Kramim and Neviim neighborhoods and the Technology Park.
The highlight of this decision is that the Southern Hills will be defined as a National Park, within which the national ecological corridor passes. The Southern Hills will remain green and allow the city's residents and guests to enjoy a green lung, a part of city's municipal area, in line with Bibas' policy included in the city's master plan.
Mayor of Modi'in Maccabim Reut, Haim Bibas: " 25 years ago, the city of Modi'in was established out of a desire to create a city in the center of the country which would provide its residents with an abundance of natural landscapes, fresh air and nature; to enjoy green spaces adjacent to the city.
