25/10/2021 י"ט חשון תשפ"ב

Modiin Maccabim Reut Municipality, in co-operation with Tamir Recycling Corporation, has been placing orange recycling containers in garbage cellars throughout the city since October 2021.

These orange containers are intended for waste from packaging, with regards to the law regulating the handling of such packaging, and which aims to reduce the amount of waste generated from packaging, prevent its landfill and reduce its negative environmental impact.

Everything you need to know about recycling in orange bins - here are some questions and answers:

What should I do?
The municipality has placed orange containers in garbage cellars next to the green containers. It is recommended to separate packaging into a bag or any other means of separation at home and from there transfer them to the orange container.

What may be put in the orange container?
The orange container is intended for recyclable packaging, of the following types:

Plastic: food packaging of all kinds, packaging of cleaning and care products, plastic bags.
Metal: sprays, cans, metal boxes
Beverage cartons: milk cartons, juice cartons and more

What should not be put in the orange container:

  • Large cardboard boxes

  • Glass and glass packaging

  • Paper, paper packaging and newspapers

  • Disposable dishes

  • Broken objects and toys

  • Pruning and gardening scraps and organic waste.

  • Building debris and garden equipment

Do I need to clean the packaging before throwing it in the orange container?
Packaging should be emptied of its contents, it is not necessary to wash it. During the recycling process, the packaging is thoroughly washed. If there are contents left in the package, first throw the contents into the regular bin and the packaging in the orange container.

    Who empties the orange bins?
The responsibility for the removal of the orange bins lies with the Modiin Maccabim Reut Municipality through the Shefa Division.
A designated garbage truck collects the waste from the orange bins according to the collection days.

Where does the packaging collected in the orange containers go?
The contents are collected separately in a truck that collects only this type of waste and transports it to the sorting station in Rishon Lezion, which handles this material.

It is then loaded onto conveyors and are then separated according to the type of material from which they are made. The packaging is separated into 7 different categories, 4 of which are technologically sorted without human contact.

After being separated, each material is bundled into large blocks made of the same material and from there they are directed to the various recycling plants that exist, mostly in Israel, for the benefit of Israeli industry.

Are there recycling plants in Israel?
As of November 2021, there are 6 plastic recycling plants in the country for household waste and dozens of other plants for recycling wood, metal and cardboard, both household packaging waste and commercial packaging waste.
