Following government directives, the municipality distributed antigen testing kits in kindergartens and elementary schools. Upper secondary schools will receive kits from the Ministry of Health in the coming days.

Following the outbreak of the omicron virus and the fifth wave that is well felt in the city, schools are preparing for the distribution of antigen testing kits in educational institutions.

The new guidelines set by the government came into force on Friday 7.1.22, according to which antigen testing is used as the main tool in diagnosing the virus for the population under 60 and people without background diseases.

In accordance with the government decision, the municipality distributed the antigen kits to children in kindergartens and pupils in primary schools, with each child (or staff member of the school or kindergartens) receiving 3 kits to use.

Secondary schools will also receive kits from the Ministry of Health in the coming days.

Mayor Haim Bibas met on Sunday for zoom talks with the head of the Education Department, Batya Shuchen-Orbuch, elementary school principals and high school principals and thanked them and school staff for their devoted work in school management in general and at this time in particular.

Bibas added that for him, the principals are the leaders in the field and therefore they know how to exercise responsible judgment in the management of the school in the best way, whether frontal studies or on Zoom, depending on the morbidity situation in the school. District school inspectors and the Ministry of Education, also took part in the zoom.

At these meetings the mayor made it clear that the municipality will assist the principals and stand by their side for the entire period of the fight against the outbreak of the corona virus.
