Good news for users of public transport - from 31.3.2022 the train route from Modiin Merkaz Railway Station to Jerusalem 'Yitzhak Navon' line will commence.
The trains will operate throughout the weekday and including Fridays and Saturday evenings. In the first stage the train will depart with a frequency of one train every hour, in each direction, and later the line will be expanded to two trains per hour.
Travel time from Modiin Merkaz to Jerusalem will take about 29 minutes, and from Pata’ei Modiin to Jerusalem about 22 minutes.
The operation of the line is made possible after Israel Railways completed the "Keshet Modiin" engineering project that connects the city to the Jerusalem line, and included the construction of a double and electrified railway infrastructure with a total length of 5.2 km. Additional construction includes three bridges and a tunnel, with a total length of about 650 meters. The Pata’ei Modiin station has been expanded – with two additional platforms, expanded and improved underground passages between the platforms, replacing all the flooring in the station, upgrading the lighting to LED, building a new car park adjacent to Einav Center with about 800 spaces for parking, and the construction of a 165-foot-long pedestrian bridge that includes elevators for full accessibility.
Along with the operation of the new line to Jerusalem, services will be improved on the routes between Modi'in Maccabim Reut and Tel Aviv and other destinations, operating hours will be extended until midnight (approximately) and services will be operated on Fridays and Saturday evenings.
This upgrade was made possible upon completion of the engineering and electrification work on the line. In addition, from 1.4.22, the Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon-Tel Aviv-Herzliya line will also operate on Fridays, with a frequency of one train every hour, in each direction.
Mayor Haim Bibas: "Modiin Maccabim Reut is a central strategic location between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and the Keshet Modiin project embodies this in practice and creates new opportunities for jobs, entertainment and leisure in less than half an hour’s journey. I have no doubt that with the opening of the new line, combined with the Tel Aviv lines returning to full activity throughout the week, the city's residents will enjoy greater convenience and quality of life, in addition to encouraging domestic tourism and increasing employment. This is very good news. "
Minister of Transport and Road Safety, MK Merav Michaeli: "The new service is a leap in the ability to move by public transport and mass transportation, which is a better and faster alternative to the private car. Travel by train is the main transportation artery of the State of Israel and we work with full force to make it as accessible and as fast as possible for everyone."
