The Social Services division has recognized the need among senior citizens to acknowledge the enormous loss and acquire skills to deal with heavy grief following 7 October and the ongoing war. Registration for a dedicated support group for bereaved grandparents is now open.

The events of October 7 and the subsequent war struck all the citizens of the country with deep sorrow and brought thousands of citizens into the circle of bereavement.

Within the close circle of mourners, are bereaved grandparents. The Social Services department at the municipality understood that there is a great need to recognize and deal with the enormous loss and heavy grief. Especially when these grandparents are not recognized as entitled to care and support by the state institutions (Ministry of Defense and National Insurance).

Therefore, preparations are being made in the division for the opening of a support group after Passover, for bereaved grandparents, residents of the city and the surrounding area.

The group will meet once a week in the afternoon for ten weeks under the guidance of professionals specializing in the treatment of loss and bereavement, from the "Amech" association. The group will provide its members with a meeting with people facing similar experiences and will enable an experience of partnership and belonging. In addition, the group will share and participate personal experiences of dealing with bereavement and expanding tools for coping and developing resilience.

The group will be free of charge for participants, in order to encourage as many grandparents as possible to take part.
