The first council meeting of the elected city council was held on Tuesday, 19.3.24. The elected mayor, Haim Bibas, thanked the outgoing council members and congratulated the incoming council members.
The meeting was held, as is tradition, in the lobby of the city hall. Nine members were new to the city council.
For the first time in the history of Modi'in Maccabim Reut, a woman will assume the position of Deputy Mayor: Adv. Michal Kahana Levy, who will serve in this position on a voluntary basis.
At the meeting, Bibas said that: "Tonight the new city council officially starts its journey. We have a five-year term ahead of us in which we all have a lot of work to do. Around the council table sit good, elected officials who are here in good spirits, and want to contribute and work for the residents.
I know that everyone will act out of a sense of mission for the benefit of the city's residents, engage in its promotion and development, and present the residents with meaningful action."
Bibas added: "Since all the members of the council chose to be in the coalition, then the responsibility for this obligates everyone. We must all remember that we are working for the benefit of the public in our city. Being an elected official, a public messenger, is not an easy task that we have taken upon ourselves and is assigned to Each and every one of us has the responsibility to prove and act in cooperation for the residents and for the city as we promised."
During the meeting, the city council bid farewell to seven members of the previous city council: Avi Elbaz, Eli Sabah, Gabi Edri, Hila Ben Eliezer, Moish Levy, Noga Katz Rappaport and Shahar Mey-On.
The mayor then presented the distribution of roles in the city council:
Acting Mayor (voluntary): This position will be held in rotation, with Shlomo Pasi serving in the first half of the term. In the second half will be Shimon Guetta, who will serve as acting mayor (voluntary).
Deputy mayors (salaried): In light of the fact that the city has more than 100,000 residents, three paid deputy mayors have been appointed. Or Greenfeld will be appointed deputy mayor and will serve in this position throughout the period.
Two additional salaried deputy mayor positions are appointed in rotation - Elad Shimonovitz and Amiad Taub will serve as deputy mayors for the first part of the period.
At the end of their term, the two will be appointed to the position of deputy mayor (voluntarily).
In the second half of the term Ilan Ben Saadon and Yossi Avivi will serve as paid deputy mayors, while in the first half of the period they will serve as deputy mayors. Also, Michal Kahana Levy and Iti Almog Bar will serve as deputy mayors for the duration of the term.
