On Friday January 17, 2025, a memorial ceremony was held to dedicate a public lane in the name of Captain Eitan Oster z”l, a resident of the city.
The ceremony was attended by family members, friends and residents of the city who came to pay their respects.
On October 7th, Eitan was drafted into the army, where he served as a team commander in the training of the Egoz Patrol of the Commando Division. He arrived at the training base where he served, and from there he went down with other fighters to Kibbutz Nirim, where they fought to rescue residents from the terrorists.
For many months, Eitan led his team in the fighting in Gaza. In August, Eitan's team also took part in an operation to rescue kidnapped bodies in Khan Yunis. As the fighting continued, Eitan and his team went to fight in Lebanon, where he led the beginning of the battle in southern Lebanon. During the fighting, Eitan was seriously wounded, and despite this, he continued to command his soldiers until his last breath.
The values that Eitan received from his parents were values of Zionism, humility and the pursuit of excellence. As a child who loved learning about the history of the Jewish people, he made the decision to enlist as soon as possible.
The lane in his name is located near his childhood home, at 10 Sderot HaOranim, and his story will forever be intertwined with the story of the city. May his memory be as a blessing.
The memorial ceremonies to dedicate city locations to the fallen soldiers of Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut who fell in the Swords of Iron war constitute an important municipal project to commemorate the fallen, together with their families.
At each trail, a memorial stone in the name of the deceased presents a QR code that can be scanned, linking to the site that tells the story of the deceased.
