The Municipal Rescue and Rescue Unit recently participated in a training exercise to maintain competence and readiness for any emergency scenario, led by the Security and Emergency Administration in the municipality.
The training took place at the unit's urban destruction site, which contains rubble similar to an earthquake scenario, under which there are trapped people who need to be rescued. During the training, the unit's volunteers were required to operate advanced rescue equipment and devices according to a number of emergency scenarios that occurred during the training. In addition, the training strengthened teamwork, concentration, decision-making in the field and the agile professionalism required, as a front-line first line to be activated in the event of an emergency.
The medical personnel of the rescue unit also took part in the exercise, who, within the framework of the various scenarios, provided immediate medical response to those trapped and those rescued from the rubble.
Throughout the year, and especially since the outbreak of the war, the unit has undergone extensive training and exercises to maintain its competence and readiness. Two months ago, the unit participated in an extensive exercise at the Zikim base in the south of the country led by the Home Front Command, in which many forces took part - the Israel Police, MDA, the United Hatzalah, the fire department and other rescue units.
The exercise simulated the collapse of many buildings, and work on several destruction sites to rescue trapped people simultaneously, in cooperation with all the forces. About 70 volunteers from the unit took part in the exercise, who arrived at the base with professional equipment and advanced rescue means available to the unit. The exercise took place in the evening and at night, during which the unit practiced, among other things, carrying out operations to locate and rescue trapped people, transmitting information to the Home Front Command, creating an up-to-date situational picture, and transferring command of the incident to Home Front Command personnel, while continuing to work together until all trapped people were rescued.
As part of the exercise, the unit received many compliments for its capabilities and professional preparedness for emergency situations. This is thanks to the advanced professional training conducted for the unit, called Rescuer Training 03, which allows the unit's volunteers to deal with complex scenarios at destruction sites. The exercise was the opening shot for close cooperation with the Home Front Command, and several more large-scale exercises on a national scale are expected to take place, in which the municipal rescue unit will take part.
