On Tuesday, May 27, representatives of the Ministry of Transportation came to HaEla Center in Beit Yad Labanim to provide service to senior citizens aged 67 and over as part of the “transportation fairness” reform for free travel on public transportation
Last week, dozens of senior citizens, residents of the city, arrived at the HaEla Center in Beit Yad Labanim, where they were welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Transportation.
The initiative to make the Ministry of Transportation's service accessible, close to home, to assist senior citizens, was implemented under the leadership of Deputy Mayor and Transportation Portfolio Holder, Or Greenfeld, together with the Community Division at the municipality.
As part of the reform that recently came into effect, the age of eligibility for free travel on public transportation lines was expanded from 75 to 67 and over. Accordingly, many of the senior citizens who purchased Rav Kav cards were able to receive a refund at the service point that arrived in the city, if they had remaining credit. In addition, the senior citizens were assisted in issuing a card, which, as mentioned, entitles them to free travel on public transportation.
Following the success of the project and for the benefit of senior citizens who were unable to attend, the Community Division, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, was able to set an additional date for receiving the service on Tuesday, May 27, at the HaEla Beit Yad Labanim Center.
Or Greenfeld, Deputy Mayor and Transportation Portfolio Holder: "Quite a few citizens are unaware of the new benefit that went into effect as part of the public transportation reform, and not everyone is aware of the need to validate the benefit through the Rav Kav or the app. In order to simplify the process and allow everyone to enjoy the entitlement without traveling far or messing around with apps, we established, through the Community Division and in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation, a special activity center to validate the entitlement in a convenient and speedy manner. I was not surprised by the high demand and due to the success, we opened an additional day for the activity. Many thanks to the wonderful team of the Community Division for their commitment and for managing the project professionally and giving personal attention to every resident."
