The special program that brings seniors back to school in the city's schools is generating curiosity and a great love of learning with varied lessons once a week.
Recently, 35 seniors, men and women, went to a special seminar held at Bar Ilan University. The students, young at heart, participated in the seminar together with 11th grade students, as part of their studies in the seniors class at AMIT Girl school.
The seminar dealt with fascinating lectures on growth after a crisis, with the participation of rabbis, doctors and intellectuals who spoke about resilience and coping. In addition, they visited the university's "Nano" museum, as part of experiential and scientific enrichment.
At the school, the seniors’ “class” meets once a week and study fascinating lessons with the school's teaching staff, math and science, weekly Torah, art and English.
The Ort Ironi Daled school also has an enthusiastic seniors class, which includes 24 naturally curious senior citizens who have chosen to study. Four hours of study each week, and the class is filled with lively discussion, deep thought and smiles. The veteran students study literature and poetry, computer skills, history, and write a "travel diary" at the school. Subjects that some of them learned in their youth, but this time are experienced from a different, mature and profound perspective.
The class has a dedicated teacher 11th grade teacher, and they celebrate holidays together, and many of the participants continue to study at home, reading, thinking, and developing new ideas around what was learned in class. The seniors warmly accept the embrace they receive from the school staff and students.
The Seniors’ Class Program has expanded this year due to the high demand, and approximately 90 seniors, residents of the city, are participating. The project is led by the Ministry of Social Equality and the Community Division at the municipality. As part of the program they study various subjects for knowledge and enrichment from morning to afternoon, in parallel with regular school activities, with each school holding a different set of lessons.
