Anabe Park reopens to the public with upgraded trails, lighting, playgrounds, landscaping and infrastructure
After months of maintenance and upgrade work, Anabe Park opened to the public on Sunday, May 10, 2026, and will once again serve the residents of Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut as one of the city's main recreational spaces.
During the months that Anabe Park was closed to the public, extensive maintenance and upgrade work was carried out, intended to return the park to full operation after approximately 15 years of intensive use. The work focused primarily on restoring the existing infrastructure and addressing the daily elements that affect the experience of visiting the park: the walking and cycling trails were renewed and upgraded, the playgrounds were maintained and improved, the lighting system was strengthened, and public furniture, including benches, picnic tables and seating areas, was treated and renovated.
Alongside infrastructure work, much work was undertaken in the park's green areas. The landscaping areas were expanded and upgraded, the irrigation systems were buried in the ground, the vegetation was cared for, to improve the park's overall appearance and give it a fresher, cleaner, and more well-maintained appearance. In addition, the shading and fencing systems were updated as part of an effort to improve safety, comfort, and accessibility for families, children, hikers, and cyclists.
Upon completion of the work, the park is better prepared for the general public, with more convenient paths, maintained play areas, improved lighting, seating areas, and renewed green areas. This is an upgrade designed not only to beautify the park, but also to extend the life of its infrastructure and ensure residents a safe, accessible, and inviting recreational space for years to come.
Mayor Haim Bibas: "Anabe Park is one of the symbols of the city and a center for leisure, culture and nature for thousands of families and residents. After extensive restoration and upgrading work, we are pleased to reopen it to the public; well-maintained, safe and more accessible. This is an important step in a broader process to continue developing the park and turn it into a significant recreation and tourism center in the heart of the city."
The reopening of the park is the first step in a much broader process, within the framework of which Anabe Park is planned to undergo a significant development revolution in the coming years. According to the plan, this is a large-scale urban project, with a total investment estimated at approximately 100 million shekels, which aims to transform Wadi Anabe into a green, accessible and continuous axis, one that will combine urban nature, leisure, culture, environmental education, sports and domestic tourism.
The future plan divides the park into three main sections: the existing park complex, which includes the lake, play areas and the central path; the central section, between Moreshet and Nofim neighborhoods, is expected to include nature centers, a greenhouse, and a wildlife conservation center; and the western section, which is more open, will include hiking centers, camping, connections to regional trails, and field activities. The idea is to take the large valley, parts of which are currently used mainly by hikers and cyclists, and transform it into a lively and more accessible urban space for families, students, and visitors.
Among the main anchors planned in the park: a Japanese garden, a botanical greenhouse complex, a wildlife conservation center, an overnight parking lot, and a youth tour center, the “Anabe Vineyards” winery that will connect the region’s agricultural heritage with local tourism, and an Anabe lookout with an observation point and commerce. Alongside these, community gardens, orchards, natural play areas, picnic groves, bicycle trails, therapeutic spaces in nature, and shaded resting areas are also planned.
Since its opening, Anabe Park has been considered one of the most recognizable places in the city. The lake, walking paths, seating areas, play facilities and open spaces have made it a meeting point for families, children, hikers and cyclists over the years. Now, with the completion of the first upgrade work, it is back in operation, with the next stage in the vision of transforming the park from a beloved urban center into a nature and recreation complex on a much larger scale already on the horizon.
The park opens after the completion of the necessary work and safety inspections. Upon its return to operation, residents and visitors will be able to once again enjoy the lake, paths, seating areas, play facilities and green spaces.
Along with the reopening, the municipality is asking the public to maintain cleanliness, vegetation and facilities, so that the park continues to serve as an open, pleasant and inviting space for all visitors.
