Modi'in Maccabim Reut Municipality is updating the city’s paper recycling system to better match current needs and realities. Paper collection will gradually transition from blue containers in shared buildings to regional recycling stations located throughout the city.
This change follows the end of the previous paper collection contract and the need to establish a new agreement under responsible and sustainable conditions. During the review process, the municipality received unusually high price demands from the contractor. After professional and budgetary evaluation, it was decided not to continue the service in its existing format and instead adopt a more efficient and cost effective model that maintains responsible use of public funds.
In recent years, the amount of paper collected for recycling has steadily declined due to increased digital services, reduced use of printed newspapers, and lower consumption of office paper. Many cities have already shifted to regional recycling stations, and Modi’in will now do the same.
The municipality is advancing a new tender and establishing additional recycling stations across the city. Blue lifting containers for paper, similar to the orange containers already in use, will be integrated into these stations. The new model will increase the number of paper recycling points, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and decrease the number of bins and collection trucks in the city. It will also help reduce road blockages, noise, and environmental impact, while improving cleanliness and quality of life.
Until the new system is launched, residents should dispose of regular paper (including newspapers, pages, and office paper) in the green bins. Thin cardboard should be placed in the orange bins, and large cardboard boxes should be taken to the cardboard cages or disposed of according to municipal guidelines.
The municipality emphasizes that paper recycling is not being canceled. It is being reorganized in a more responsible, efficient, and transparent manner for the benefit of residents, the environment, and the protection of public funds.
