The Israel Capoeira Championship 2026 was held in Modiin Maccabim Reut last week, and celebrated the Modi’in Teams 25th Anniversary.

This weekend, the Israel Capoeira Championship 2026 was held in Modiin Maccabim Reut, with more than 100 children, teenagers and adults participating, competing in all categories.

The event included a weekend full of training, championship games, belt awards, professional meetings and lots of joy, rhythm and Brazilian energy. Among the participants in the championship were a world and European champion, other European champions, world finalists and two masters who came especially from Brazil to conduct a training camp and judge the championship.

The uniqueness of capoeira is also reflected in the way the championship is held. Unlike a regular competition, the goal is not just to “beat the opponent”, but to accumulate the most points together in a joint game. Success is built on reciprocity, listening, movement, rhythm and the desire of each participant to make the other person better. Victory in capoeira comes not only through personal ability, but also through cooperation, self-control, creativity and mutual respect.

The icing on the cake was the celebration of 25 years of activity for Modiin's veteran capoeira group, which over the years has become a warm home for children, youth, adults and families in the city.

The capoeira school in the city is led by Lotan Mager, who began training with the group from day one. Over the past decade, she has been coaching groups of children, adults and parent-child groups in the city, and is developing capoeira training as an educational and community tool, and not just as a movement training.

Mager also took part in the national championship and won second place.
Lotan Mager: “Capoeira is much more than a sport. It is a powerful and experiential tool through which we learn about ourselves, others and the world. This year’s championship was particularly exciting, both thanks to the high level of professionalism and the celebration of our team’s 25th anniversary in the city. Seeing children, adults, parents and coaches enter the circle together, training, excited and happy, that is exactly the spirit of capoeira.”

Capoeira combines movement, music, acrobatics, play, rhythm and culture. It strengthens the body, but no less than that, confidence, discipline and creativity.
