Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut municipality is currently preparing to operate a new format for collecting and recycling paper throughout the city. As part of these preparations, and due to the termination of the previous contract and the need to arrange a new tender, the municipality is currently removing blue containers from the garbage rooms of communal buildings.
Blue recycling containers are to be placed at regional recycling stations throughout the city and the service will be renewed.
The municipality stated that until the service resumes in the new format, regular paper, including newspapers, pages, and office paper, should be disposed of in the green trash bins. Thin cardboard should be disposed of in the orange bin, and large cardboard boxes should be sent to the cardboard box container or outside in accordance with the municipal disposal guidelines.
The municipality emphasizes that paper recycling is not being canceled, but is being adapted to a new format, which will allow for more efficient and responsible management of the service, while protecting public funds, environmental quality and order in the urban space.
As part of the review of the continuation of the service, the municipality was presented with unusually high price demand from the removal contractor. After a professional, budgetary and operational review, a decision was made not to continue the service in its current format, but to promote a more efficient and economical model. The municipality notes that the decision was made from a responsibility to protect public funds, along with the desire to continue to encourage recycling in an orderly, accessible and current reality manner.
In addition, in recent years there has been a continuous decline in the amount of paper collected for recycling, due, among other things, to the transition to digital services, the reduction in the use of printed newspapers and the reduction in the use of office paper. Accordingly, and in accordance with the trend in many other cities, paper collection will gradually move from the blue containers in common buildings to regional recycling stations that will be placed throughout the city.
The move is expected to increase the number of paper recycling collection points in public spaces, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, reduce the number of bins and collection trucks in the urban space, and contribute to reducing road blockages, noise pollution, and environmental pollution. In addition, the move will help maintain order, cleanliness, and the quality of life in the city.
The municipality emphasized that the move does not eliminate paper recycling, but rather reorganizes it in a more responsible, efficient, and transparent manner, for the benefit of residents, the environment, and the protection of public funds.
