Pesifas School for Special Education is to be named after Sally Bein, a groundbreaking educator who believed in children's abilities and their full integration into society.
At a ceremony held this week at Pesifas School, it was announced that Sally Bein's name would be added to the school's name. The choice of Bein was intended to connect his educational legacy with the path that Pesifas has been leading since its founding about a decade ago, a concept that sees first and foremost the person, the strengths and potential inherent in every student, and not the disability or difficulty.
Sally Bein was a groundbreaking Jewish educator who, more than a century ago, believed that children with disabilities are entitled not only to care and protection, but also to education, opportunities, independence and full integration into society. His concept was that every boy and girl has abilities, value and a place in society.
The move was initiated by the school's principal, Ella Mor, and in continuation of the research of Holocaust researcher Roni Dotan, who spent years researching Bein's life and work. At the ceremony, the municipality thanked Dotan for the research, perseverance, and sensitivity that revealed Bein's story and created the connection between his legacy and the school.
The invocation also takes on special significance in light of the recent opening of the school's alumni space. The space, which will continue to develop in the coming months, is designed to allow alumni to develop independence, life skills, and employment skills and integrate into the community as meaningful and contributing alumni.
The municipality emphasizes that this is part of a broad municipal concept of integration and equality. Modi'in Maccabim Re'ut has four special education schools, a cluster of kindergartens, more than 40 kindergartens, and dozens of special education classes, providing services to more than 2,500 students.
Batya Shochen Orbuch, Head of the Education Administration: "Naming the school after Sally Bein expresses exactly the path we seek to lead, to see the person before the disability and the ability before the difficulty. Pesifas School does this every day, and now, with the opening of the graduate space, we are taking this concept one step further and helping students develop independence, integrate into employment and become a significant part of the community."
It was emphasized at the ceremony that Sally Bein's name is intended to be much more than the name on the sign. Bein's educational spirit will be an educational compass and a daily reminder that every boy and girl deserves a place where they can grow, belong and succeed.
Ella Mor, Principal of the Pesifas School: "It is a great privilege to be the first school to commemorate the late Sally Bein, a pioneering educator who dedicated his life to children with special needs. Receiving the Jewish Lifeguard Medal for custody at the school gives this status additional meaning. We see this as a commitment to continue his path, to promote integration, independence and employment, and to always see the person and their abilities before disabilities."
